Arching Roommates Together

I created this project to display the relationship between roommates at Juanita College.

I went and emailed many people on campus to get the word out that I was doing this project. This was the hardest and longest part of the project. I didn't get a response from over half of the people I contacted. This was frustrating but I worked around it and tried other ways to contact people. I sent out text messages and Facebook messages and got a faster and more direct response that way.

When I shot, I took three different positions per roommate. I asked them to pretend I was not there and interact how they usually would. Some people had a harder time coming up with things to do and I had to prompt them. Other people were easy and continued as if I was not there. Each shoot took around 15 minutes. I got around 55 people to participate in this project.

After I took the pictures, I edited the photos in Photoshop and placed the pictures together as if they were one. I wanted one item to connect the two pictures to show the item connected the two people. I had to change the color balance and resize each photo to match correctly. After I printed all the photos out and cut them.

I displayed them on a fishing line from the ceiling. I hung all the pictures in an arch shape reflecting the Juniata arch.

Final piece hung up the pictures rotated because they were light weight.
