From Juniata With Love is a project that a group of students and I worked on for IMA Lab I. This project we created post cards for the school. We took our own pictures and used them for the postcards. Our project was well received and many of the post cards were gone within a week we displayed them. They purpose was to spend these postcards to family and friends because Juniata did not have post cards before.
Today we gave our formal presentation to the class. We talked about the idea, process, where we encountered trouble, and final product. Kien talked about his idea and how it played out. Haruka talked about his video he made for the project. Sara talked about the process and what tools we had to use. I talked about our end product and the reception we got.
Here is the presentation.
Over all I think the project went well and had a fun time creating these postcards and seeing people actually take them.
Today we talked about our presentation. Sara created a Powerpoint and we each will have a different topic to talk about. I talk about when we distributed the postcards and how we set up the racks. I will add pictures and some bullet points to the slide show. Afterwards we split up to restock the postcards. I restocked BAC and the library.
We grouped in the library and started refilling the stacks of postcards. We took a look at Haruka's video he put together and gave some quotes and text we could use in the video. Then we split into two teams to get the postcards out before Liberal Arts Symposium. Kien and I went to Ellis. Sara and Haruka went to BAC and Good. We deiced to put the tallest rack in Ellis. We filled the rack up and put some postcards down stairs by the post office. Then we checked VLB's postcard stack to see if they had to be restocked.
Today we went over to Hallbritter with our Professor to get the stands to put the postcards up. Then we went to the library and placed the postcards into the rack. We had to create a sign on the top of the rack to indicate what the Project was called and why there were postcards out. Then Kien and I took a rack to VLB and placed one there. We filled the rack with postcards and then headed back to the library. Sara and I printed and placed the sign on the rack. Haruka took pictures and videos of us setting up and displaying the postcards.
Today we created a Tumblr. It's called From Juniata With Love. This took a while because we had to find an email that we could use and also figure out how people could search us using #fromjuniatawithlove. We decided to add a few pictures on the Tumblr site just so people can search #fromjuniatawithlove and not end up being an empty search.
In the beginning we called PS Print to figure out what was wrong with our one postcard. We had to move the Juniata College so it wouldn't get cut off and had to change the back of the postcard. We split off into two teams. Haruka and I went to film for our video and Sara and Kien stayed on worked on fixing the postcards. Haruka and I filmed people in the quad and then we went to Nathan Hall. He wanted to get an over view of the campus. We then split off and he went to VLB and I went to take short clips of people in the quad. I took about five 15 second videos of people on the quad.
We talked about the back of the postcard and we changed things on the back. We put the address of the college on the postcard and moved the logo to the bottom. We also changed "From JC With Love" to "From Juniata With Love". JC sounded like Jesus Christ. We had to rearrange photos on some of the postcards because we wanted a different theme and overall look. We picked two new pictures and put them together using the Moldov application on our phones. We looked at some story board ideas and Haruka and Sara gave us some ideas they had. We hope to start filming by Monday. We also are thinking of purchasing a domain name so we can link it to our blog on Tumblr.
Today we finalized 3 postcards. We want to have all the postcards ready by Wednesday and then ship them out so they can be printed. We started to make the intro teaser trailer. Sara made the video and here a clip of the audio. I tried to create a quick animation of a postcard falling down on Blender but realized that will take too much time and we really didn't need it in the video.
Kien and I worked on the postcards. We picked out the pictures we wanted on the Drive and edited them in Photoshop together. It took about 2-3 hours to edit the pictures. We didn't know how to place them and had to figure out were each picture went in the college. Also, we had to figure out what to write on the postcards. We deiced just to write Juniata on the front. We looked at other postcards and copied the main design for the back. Ken created the logo and we both added the stamp like border around the image.
We presented our Powerpoint in class. Now, we going though the pictures to pick five pictures to create the postcards. Our Professor told us that we could print out 500 copies for each postcard. But we had to get the designs in my Monday. Then we made a new folder on Google Drive to put photos we could use for the postcards. We deiced 2 colleges and 3 stand along pictures for the post cards. We started to created some templates for the postcards. I uploaded more pictures we could use on the Drive later that night.
We came up with ideas. We discussed ideas and a timeline. When do we want to make the video? When do we want to get the postcards? Where to place them? We realized that we have to do most of the work in a short amount of time. Since we only have five weeks left, we have get these post cards out and fast. We wanted talk and get connected around and ask how we should deliver these postcards. We planned out how we will create these postcards. We carted a Google Dive and deiced to place the images for the postcards there. There is a lot of work to do in a short amount of time. We created a timeline and will work over this on Easter Break. We all friended each other on Facebook and exchanged numbers. We are going to meet tomorrow (March 31st) in the library at 8 to discuss more.
